Who is Arshad Sharif Shaheed?

Arshad Sharif Shaheed was a famous investigative journalist, analyst, and anchor of Pakistan. He hosted ARY’s famous show “POWERPLAY”. He was also the news director at DUNYA TV and he was leading the news team of AAJ news and hosted the program KYUN. Moreover, he was known for doing various investigative stories.

He was a patriotic citizen of Pakistan. His father and younger brother both were a part of the Pakistan Army. His brother sacrificed his life for Pakistan and earned the title of martyr. Arshad Sharif Shaheed was very passionate about his profession.

He was one of the most upright journalists in the history of Pakistan. Arshad means Better Guided, Honest, Most Rightly Guided, and Most Reasonable, and Sharif Means Noble. Mr. Arshad Sharif Shaheed was both, honest as well as noble

Arshad Sharif’s Early life:

Arshad Sharif Shaheed was born on Thursday, 22 February 1973 in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. His father’s name was Muhammad Sharif. Muhammad Sharif was the Commander of the Pakistan Navy. His mother’s name is Riffat Ara Alvi. His younger brother’s name was Major Ashraf Sharif and he was martyred by Taliban militants. Arshad Sharif Shaheed’s father, Commander Muhammad Sharif, died of a heart attack at the Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology in May 2011. As his brother was informed of his father’s death, he left for home. On his way home, he was without any crew and come under the attack of Taliban militants.

Arshad Sharif started his journalistic career as a freelancer in 1993, he was also a student at that time. His first media job was with a weekly publication Pulse, where he served as a columnist, reporter, and managing editor in 1999. Arshad Sharif Shaheed joined The News in 1999 and Daily Dawn in 2001.

Education:

He was a student of the Quaid-e-Azam university of Islamabad and completed a Master of Science in Public administration there. He had also done a Master’s degree in media studies from the UK.

Personal life Of Arshad Sharif Shaheed:

Arshad Sharif had 2 wives. Arshad Sharif’s second marriage is with Javeria Siddique, a renowned journalist, and columnist. Mr. Arshad has five children. He didn’t talk much about his personal life in the media.

Journalistic career:

Arshad Sharif Shaheed covered conflicts in the tribal areas with expertise in defence and foreign affairs. He served as a reporter for leading Pakistani news organizations from London, Paris, Strasbourg, and Kiel.

Arshad Sharif started his program Powerplay on ARY News in 2014 and the program proved to be a huge success. The program focused on giving new information to viewers rather than showing the typical debates and fights of politicians.

Mr. Sharif also served as Head of News at AAJ News and DUNYA TV as Director of News. He worked as the Bureau Chief of Dawn News in 2011.

Achievements Of Arshad Sharif:

Arshad Sharif Shaheed was the winner of the Agahi Award for journalism 2012.

Sharif won the 2016 Investigative Journalist of the Year award for the program Powerplay as an anchor.

Arshad Sharif Shaheed won the Favourite Current Affairs Anchor – Male award in 2018 and was awarded Agahi’s People’s Choice Award. The President of Pakistan awarded him The Pride of Performance Award 2019.

Arshad Sharif’s Death:

Before the murder, Arshad Sharif Shaheed went to Dubai a few days before his death and then to Kenya. He was shot dead by local police in Kajiado, Kenya on 23 October 2022. Kenyan police described the shooting as a case of “mistaken identity”. The body of Arshad Shareef Shaheed was sent to Pakistan via plane.

Arshad Sharif Shaheed’s Namaz-e-Janaza was offered at the famous Shah Faisal Mosque in Islamabad, Pakistan on Thursday, 27 Oct 2022.

Arshad Sharif Shaheed’s grave is at Islamabad H-11 graveyard on Thursday.

On his death, his wife Javeria Siddique said:

I have lost my friend and my husband. I request that our personal photos are not shared. Arshad’s last-minute photos and our personal information should not be shared.
