New Zealand Defeated Pakistan By 79 Runs In The 2nd ODI

The 2nd ODI of the three-match ODI series between Pakistan and New Zealand was played in Karachi today. New Zealand defeated Pakistan by 79 runs in the 2nd match.

Toss:

New Zealand won the toss and elected to bat first. Pakistan played with an unchanged playing eleven. New Zealand brought Ish Sodhi back into their playing 11.

New Zealand’s batting:

Fin Allen lost his wicket in the very first over. He got out for 1 run on Naseem Shah’s bowl. Kane Williamson joined Devon Conway in the middle. Kane and Devon launched their counterattack. Both batters played very well. They built up a partnership of 181 runs. Devon Conway smashed a brilliant century. Conway got out after scoring 101 runs. Naseem Shah got his wicket.

Daryl Mitchell joined Kane in the middle and got out early after scoring 5 runs. This laid the foundation for the Kiwi collapse. Soon Tom Latham also got out after scoring 2 runs. Kane Williamson got out after scoring 85 runs. Glenn Phillips returned to the pavilion after scoring 3 runs only. Muhammad Nawaz got all of them out.

Usama Mir got the wicket of Bracewell. He scored 8 runs. Ish Sodhi and Tim Southee got out after scoring 7 and 0 runs respectively. Santner got run out on the 2nd last delivery of the inning after scoring 37 runs.

New Zealand managed to score 261 runs in 49.5 overs.

Pakistan’s Bowling:

Pakistani bowlers bowled very well today. Naseem Shah got 3 wickets today. Muhammad Nawaz was the main man behind New Zealand’s collapse. He got 4 wickets. Haris Rauf and Usama Mir got 1 wicket each.

Pakistan’s Batting:

Pakistan came out to chase 262 runs and lost the opening pair very early. Both Imam and Fakhar got out after scoring 6 and 0 runs respectively.

The pitch got tougher to bat on under the lights at night time. Spinners started spinning the ball and the fast bowlers, specially Lockie Ferguson got plenty of support from the surface.

Babar and Rizwan put up a partnership of 55 runs but both the batter were struggling. Rizwan got out after scoring 28 runs off 50 deliveries. Haris Sohail joined Babar on the crease after Rizwan’s dismissal but he also got out after scoring 10 runs only.

Salman Ali Agha joined Babar in the middle and batted very positively. He scored 25 runs off 22 deliveries and got run out. After Agha’s dismissal, no other batter stayed on the crease for too long. Babar on the other hand was struggling to find boundaries himself. Nawaz, Usama Mir, and Wasim Jnr. got out after scoring 3, 12, and 10 runs respectively.

The required run rate was around 10 runs per over at that time. Babar has no other option but to hit boundaries. He smashed the ball for a six over the extra cover and got stumped out in the same over. He scored 79 runs. Haris Rauf was the last man to get out. He got out for a duck.

Pakistan got all out for 182 runs in 43 overs. Pakistan lost the match by 79 runs.

New Zealand’s Bowling:

New Zealand was too good with the ball. They didn’t let Pakistan score runs freely. They got wickets regularly and made the target of 262 runs look too big on that surface.

Tim Southee and Ish Sodhi took 2 wickets each. Santner, Ferguson, Phillips, and Bracewell got 1 wicket each.

Both New Zealand and Pakistan have won 1 match each in this 3 match ODI series. The series decider will be played on Friday.
