When Silence Weighs Heavy – A Reflection on Faith and the Conversations We Fail to Have

Life is a journey filled with moments of joy, sorrow, struggles, and realizations. There come times when words abandon us, when prayers feel unanswered, and when silence becomes a burden too heavy for the heart to bear. In such moments, a question arises deep within the soul—Is anyone listening?

The Test of Patience

We all face moments where life’s difficulties test our patience. No matter how many doors we knock on, they remain shut. No matter how much we strive, we sometimes find ourselves lost in a state of hopelessness. It is in these moments of desperation that our faith is truly tested. We begin to wonder if our voices are reaching anyone at all, if our prayers are merely echoes in the wind.

But then, in that moment of despair, we turn towards Allah—our Creator, our Listener. We remember that He is the One who hears even the unspoken words of our hearts.

The Blessing of Belief in God

Sitting in quiet reflection, I recently pondered over an immeasurable blessing—the mere existence of God. A blessing that has no price, no equivalent, no substitute. If God did not exist, I too would have been lost in the endless noise of this world, carrying my burdens aimlessly, with no one to listen, no one to turn to.

But because He exists, He listens.

What Do We Ask from Our Lord?

If someone were to ask what we seek from our Lord, the answer should always be clear. The teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) emphasize one crucial lesson—a believer must always remain concerned about their faith.

Through my experiences and interactions with people, I have come to a profound realization:

  • No matter how much you chase after something, if Allah does not will it for you, you will never attain it.
  • No matter how much you try to avoid something, if Allah does not will to protect you, you cannot escape it.
  • What He withholds, no one can give.
  • What He grants, no one can take away.

Thus, we must turn to Him, seek His mercy, and ask for His guidance in both this life and the Hereafter.

A Disturbing Reality – The Absence of God in Our Conversations

At 7C Report, we took to the streets of Rawalpindi with a simple question:

“If you were given a chance to ask your Lord for something, what would you ask for?”

The responses—or rather, the lack thereof—left us troubled. People were eager to talk about politics, the economy, and worldly affairs, but when it came to speaking about their personal conversations with Allah, they had no words.

How have we, as a society, reached this point? Have we become so consumed with materialism that we have forgotten the One who gave us everything?

The Burden of Silence

As I sat with my thoughts, reflecting on the hardships that weigh upon us, I felt a growing burden—not from the struggles of life, but from the silence of God.

Evening had fallen in the courtyard of my home. The days had stretched into nights, the hardships continued endlessly, and my prayers felt like whispers in an empty void. My eyes, weary from seeking answers, burned like embers.

And yet, there was only silence.

But I remind myself—and you, the reader—that even in silence, He listens. Even in trials, He is near. It is our responsibility to continue asking, continue seeking, and never stop believing.

Waiting for the Silence to Break

As we navigate through the struggles of life, we must remember that patience and faith walk hand in hand. We may not always hear His response immediately, but we must trust that He is working in ways beyond our understanding.

We are just waiting… for the silence to break.
